Publication of 2019 Annual Report

The Permanent Court of Arbitration is pleased to announce the publication of its 2019 Annual Report.

The Annual Report illustrates the PCA’s continued expansion throughout 2019 and describes the key activities undertaken by the PCA and its staff during the 2019 calendar year.

In the course of 2019, the PCA’s International Bureau provided registry services in 199 cases, 49 of which were initiated the same year. Additionally, the PCA Secretary-General received 39 requests in 2019 relating to the appointing authority mechanism under the Arbitration Rules of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) .

2019 also saw the PCA continue its engagement with the international community to increase cooperation and improve access to its services and expertise. To expand the PCA’s ability to conduct proceedings outside its headquarters in The Hague, the PCA concluded new Host Country Agreements with Ireland and Paraguay, as well as new Cooperation Agreements with the Japan International Dispute Resolution Centre, the New York International Arbitration Centre, and the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission / Shanghai International Arbitration Centre. Additionally, the PCA opened a permanent office in Buenos Aires in October 2019.
