PCA Vis Pre-Moot 2017

On 3 and 4 April 2017, the PCA hosted pre-moot rounds for the Twenty Fourth Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.  The following teams attended:

  • Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil);
  • University of Sydney (Australia);
  • Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (Lebanon);
  • Jagiellonian University of Kraków (Poland);
  • Maastricht University (the Netherlands).
  • McGill University (Canada);
  • UniCuritiba (Brazil);
  • University of Cologne (Germany);

Over two days, each team had the chance to plead four times (twice on behalf of the Claimant and twice on behalf of the Respondent) before tribunals composed of international arbitration specialists from various jurisdictions and legal backgrounds.  The teams received detailed feedback on their pleadings so as to assist with their preparation before the competition commences in Vienna on 8 April 2017.

After four rounds, the team with the highest average total score was McGill University (Canada).  The runner-up was University of Sydney (Australia) and the University of Cologne (Germany) placed third.  Ms. Anna-Lena Uerberg from the University of Cologne and Mr. Sammy Cheaib from McGill University each received the highest combined score in a single pleading.  Ms. Uerberg obtained the highest average score.

The PCA would like to thank all teams and arbitrators for making the pre-moot a success once again.  The PCA wishes all teams the best of luck for the competition in Vienna.
