Conference: “Bridging the Climate Change Policy Gap”

In cooperation with the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), the International Bar Association (IBA), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the PCA co-organized an international conference on 21 November 2016 on “Bridging the Climate Change Policy Gap”.

The Paris Agreement resulted in ambitious commitments by States not only to curb carbon emissions, but to also ensure inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The question now is how to put the goals of the Paris Agreement into practice. This inter-disciplinary conference, hosted by the Arbitration Institute of the SCC in Stockholm, brought together various business leaders, policy innovators, and international law experts to discuss how international law and international arbitration could be used to promote green investments and compliance with these global climate change mitigation goals.

During the afternoon panel, PCA Senior Legal Counsel Martin Doe moderated the discussion on “Addressing climate change targets using existing legal norms”. The expert panel included the following distinguished speakers:

• Prof. Catherine Redgwell, University of Oxford;
• Justin Jacinto, Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP;
• Monica Feria Tinta, 20 Essex Street Chambers;
• Dr. Freya Baetens, Leiden University; and
• Dennis van Berkel, Urgenda Foundation.
