PCA Buenos Aires Vis Pre-Moot 2020

On 28 February 2020, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) hosted practice moot rounds for the 27th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot for the first time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at its offices at the San Martín Palace. The following teams attended:

  • Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Chile);
  • Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil);
  • Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (Brazil);
  • University of Buenos Aires (Argentina);
  • University of Chile (Chile); and
  • University of Montevideo (Uruguay).

During the PCA Buenos Aires Vis Pre-moot, each team had the chance to plead three times before tribunals composed of international arbitration specialists from various jurisdictions and legal backgrounds. The teams received detailed feedback on their pleadings so as to assist with their preparation before the competition commences in Vienna, Austria, on 3 April 2020.

After three rounds, the team with the highest average total score was the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. The runner-up was the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, while the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro placed third. The oralist with the highest score was Mr. Caio Henrique de Campos Ramos from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo.

The PCA would like to thank all teams and arbitrators for making the inaugural edition of the PCA Buenos Aires Vis Pre-moot a success. The PCA wishes all teams the best of luck for the competition in Vienna.
