PCA Hague Vis Pre-Moot 2022

On 4 and 5 April 2022, the PCA hosted virtual pre-moot rounds for the Twenty-Ninth Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot from its headquarters in the Peace Palace in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The following eight teams participated:

  • Leiden University (Netherlands);
  • Royal University for Women (Bahrain);
  • Stetson University College of Law (United States);
  • The Nova School of Law (Portugal);
  • University of Belgrade (Serbia);
  • University of Muenster (Germany);
  • University of Nairobi (Kenya); and
  • University of Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Over two days, each team had the chance to plead four times (twice on behalf of the Claimant and twice on behalf of the Respondent) before tribunals composed of international arbitration specialists from various jurisdictions and legal backgrounds. The teams received detailed feedback on their pleadings so as to assist with their preparation before the competition commences on 8 April 2022.

After four rounds, the team with the highest average total score was the Stetson University College of Law (United States). The runner-up was University of Muenster (Germany), while University of Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) placed third. The oralists with the highest scores were Mario Makram from Stetson University College of Law (United States), followed by Anja Karadzic from University of Belgrade (Serbia), while Taylor Simonds from Stetson University College of Law (United States) placed third.

The PCA would like to thank all teams and arbitrators for making the Hague Vis Pre-Moot a success once again. The PCA wishes all teams the best of luck for the virtual competition in Vienna.
