PCA holds hearing in Porto, Portugal

From 28 November to 6 December 2022, the PCA administered hearings in Porto, Portugal at the Palácio da Bolsa, the headquarters of the Commercial Association of Porto, in an arbitration between Patel Engineering Ltd. (India) and the Republic of Mozambique.

This hearing marked the first occasion on which the PCA held a hearing in the city of Porto. The Portuguese Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Commercial Association of Porto concluded a cooperation agreement, providing for the promotion of arbitration, and mutual assistance in the use of hearing space and in the arrangement of local support services for PCA hearings and meetings.

The hearing was open to the public and it was held under the framework of the Host Country Agreement between the PCA and Portugal, concluded on 16 June 2017. The Host Country Agreement between the PCA and Portugal secures the provision of the facilities and services required for PCA-administered proceedings and regulates the privileges and immunities that are afforded by Portugal to adjudicators and participants in PCA-administered proceedings.

The Tribunal in this matter is composed of Professor Juan-Fernández Armesto, Professor Guido Santiago Tawil, and Mr. Hugo Perezcano Díaz. Further information about these proceedings is available at https://pca-cpa.org/en/cases/257/ .
