PCA to host Vis Pre-Moots in Singapore (11 March 2022), Buenos Aires (18 March 2022), Mauritius (24 March 2022) and The Hague (4-5 April 2022)
The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) is pleased to announce that it will host four Vis Pre-Moots to prepare students for the 2022 edition of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the Vis East Moot: the 15th edition of its traditional Pre-Moot in The Hague, the 3rd edition of its Buenos Aires Pre-Moot and, for the first time, a Singapore edition and a Mauritius edition of its Pre-Moot. These events will be important milestones on the road to the 30th anniversary edition of the Vis Moot in 2022-2023, when the PCA Arbitration Rules will be used. The PCA is pleased to be able to organize these events across the globe at all of its international offices, contributing to the long history of close cooperation between the Vis Moot and the PCA.
The PCA Singapore Vis Pre-Moot will be held on 11 March 2022, the PCA Buenos Aires Vis Pre-Moot on 18 March 2022, the PCA Mauritius Vis Moot on 24 March 2022 and, finally, the PCA Hague Vis Pre-Moot on 4-5 April 2022. The Singapore and Mauritius Pre-Moots will take place fully remotely. For the Hague and Buenos Aires editions, it remains to be determined whether these will be carried out fully remotely or with an in-person component to be held at the PCA’s headquarters in the Peace Palace in The Hague and at the San Martín Palace where the PCA Buenos Aires Office is located.
At each event, teams will have the opportunity to plead both as Claimant and Respondent. Highly qualified international arbitration specialists from a variety of jurisdictions will serve as arbitrators and provide feedback to the teams. All teams will be scored and ranked and each team will separately receive the scores of its individual oralists, with the top teams announced at a final event. Over the years, over 70 different universities from more than 40 countries across the globe have participated in the PCA Vis Pre-Moots.
Teams that would like to participate in the Singapore, Buenos Aires, Mauritius or Hague PCA Vis Pre-Moots in 2022 are invited to submit an expression of interest to [email protected], noting in the subject line which event they wish to be considered for. Teams are encouraged to communicate their preference for an in-person or a remote modality for the PCA Vis Pre-Moot in case they apply to participate in the Hague or the Buenos Aires editions.
Expressions of interest should be submitted by no later than Friday, 17 December 2021. Limited spaces are available. Teams will be informed by 10 January 2022 whether they have been selected for participation in either the Hague, the Buenos Aires, the Singapore or the Mauritius PCA Vis Pre-Moots; and whether the Hague and Buenos Aires editions will be held remotely or in-person. There is no registration fee.
