Permanent Court of Arbitration publishes 2016 Annual Report

The Permanent Court of Arbitration is pleased to announce the publication of its 2016 Annual Report in hard copy and in PDF format available here.

The Annual Report illustrates the PCA’s continued expansion throughout 2016 and describes the key activities undertaken by the PCA and its staff during the 2016 calendar year.

In respect of the PCA’s registry services, the PCA’s International Bureau administered 10 more cases in 2016 than in the year before (148 in 2016 as against 138 in 2015) and the PCA Secretary-General dealt with seven more requests than the year before in his role as appointing authority under the 1976 and 2010 United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (“UNCITRAL”) Arbitration Rules (49 requests in 2016 as against 42 requests in 2015).

2016 also saw the PCA continue its engagement with the international community. The PCA continued to deal productively with its members with whom it has already concluded Host Country Agreements and encouraged further members to enter into such agreements. The PCA concluded new Cooperation Agreements with the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre and the Kuwait Commercial Arbitration Centre and strengthened its partnership with P.R.I.M.E. Finance. The PCA’s Mauritius office also carried on its work in promoting the PCA’s services throughout Africa and the use of international arbitration as a method of resolving disputes peacefully.

The 2016 Annual Report provides a comprehensive discussion of these activities and more and is available for download here.
