Arbitral Tribunal in the Dispute Concerning Coastal State Rights in the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Kerch Strait (Ukraine v. the Russian Federation)

In the arbitration under Annex VII to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (“UNCLOS”) concerning coastal State rights in the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Kerch Strait, the Arbitral Tribunal has published its Award. The Permanent Court of Arbitration (“PCA”) acted as registry for the proceedings.

The arbitration was instituted on 16 September 2016, when Ukraine served on the Russian Federation a Notification and Statement of Claim under Annex VII to UNCLOS.

On 22 April 2026, the Arbitral Tribunal issued its Award. Pursuant to Procedural Order No. 2, the Parties had 21 days to consider whether any part of the Award should be designated as containing “confidential information”, before the publication of the Award on the PCA Case Repository.
